A Study of Oral Trait of Korean People

Abstract
The author has tried to clarify the characteristic pattern of oral trait of Korean people with Gottheil¢¥s Oral Trait Scale, for purpose of providing fundamental data for possible clinical implication of the findings.
The Gottheil¢¥s Oral Trait Scale used in this study was developed by Gottheil in 1965 and is a questionaire form with 40 items. The sources of the scale had been obtained from 900 normal subjects in Chungnam and Buk Provinces by random sampling.
Initially, univariate analysis of the scores was conducted to the subgroups by sex and age, for evaluating whether there any differences among the groups is. It was found that the oral trait was more predominate in the female than in the male, whereas no significant difference of the scores could be evaluated among the age groups. Finally, primary and repeated factor analysis were run for clarifying general characteristics of the oral trait.
Metrix of correlations was factor-analyzed after rotation of principal components with Kaiser normalization method and 13 factors were initially extracted Rivalry, Dependency, Excessive Demaningness, Isolation, Repentance, Indiscretion Oral Optism, Passivity, Sug¡þgestibility, Rigidity, Passive Aggression, Timidity could be named respectively. Repeated factor analysis could extract the following 6 factors. Follower, Passivity, Passive Aggression, Withdrawal, Dependency and Oral Optism.
Table of factor score coefficients for calculating factor scores of each subject were pre¡þsented.
It can be suggested that the above findings can¢¥ provide a statistical base for variable clinical use of the G. O. T. S. in clarifying oral trait of each person or clinical groups.
